CTX-I

A cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen released during bone resorption, reflecting osteoclastic bone degradation.

Key features and values
  • Serum-based assay measuring cross-linked C-terminal telopeptides of type I collagen, indicative of bone resorption activity.
  • Reflects osteoclastic activity, providing insights into bone turnover dynamics.
  • Validated for use in human blood samples, ensuring reliable and reproducible measurements.
  • Non-invasive tool for assessing bone degradation, suitable for routine blood sampling.
  • Elevated CTX-I levels correlate with increased bone resorption in conditions such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Useful for monitoring therapeutic response, with changes in CTX-I levels reflecting the efficacy of anti-resorptive treatments.
  • Facilitates research and development of targeted therapies by providing insights into bone remodeling mechanisms.
Description

The CTX-I biomarker assay is designed to quantify the levels of cross-linked C-terminal telopeptides of type I collagen in serum, serving as a specific indicator of bone resorption. Type I collagen is the predominant collagen in bone tissue, and its degradation by osteoclasts releases CTX-I fragments into the bloodstream. By measuring these fragments, the assay provides a direct assessment of osteoclastic activity and bone turnover.

This assay has been validated for use in human blood samples, demonstrating its reliability and reproducibility in various clinical and research settings. Elevated serum CTX-I levels have been associated with increased bone resorption in conditions such as osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other metabolic bone diseases. The non-invasive nature of the test makes it suitable for routine monitoring of bone health and the effectiveness of anti-resorptive therapies.

In addition to its clinical applications, the CTX-I assay serves as a valuable tool in research, facilitating the study of bone remodeling mechanisms and the development of targeted treatments aimed at modulating bone resorption processes.
